During the refueling outage, servicing was executed on plant devices and nuclear fuel was changed to enable Device 2 to operate yet another two several years before refueling is necessary, enabling 1,150 megawatts of trusted, carbon-no cost electrical power to be shipped to buyers.
Personnel spent 80,000 function hours completing above 7,000 jobs that ranged from keeping and changing equipment to finishing jobs that can’t be finished while the plant is running. The electric power plant was refueled by changing far more than 4 million gasoline pellets arranged into 48 gasoline assemblies within just the reactor core, about a single-third of the plant’s overall gas. Each individual gas pellet consists of as much electrical power as a barrel of oil.
Prairie Island is the largest carbon-absolutely free energy supply in Minnesota. When both of those nuclear models are operating, the plant generates sufficient electrical power to electricity approximately 1 million households. Each individual unit operates on a two-calendar year refueling cycle concerning outages.
